What does a first session with you look like?
Our journey in life can be exciting and a source of great joy. However, there are times when it is difficult to navigate the path on this journey alone and a helping hand is needed. I am here for you to resolve barriers to well-being caused by trauma, mood issues, grief and personal issues. I will work alongside you to assist in achieving wellness and feeling your best. I will meet with you virtually from wherever you are comfortable. We will look at your history, areas of life or symptoms that are causing you trouble, and your strengths which we can build upon. EMDR processing can sometimes be strenuous. I will be there with you the whole time to guide you. I will work to create insight based on your emotions, cognitive self-talk, and your actions in life. We will discover the best things about you, and your strengths, and develop those. You can learn to heal yourself.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I like to think of my therapeutic approach as having a "toolbox" which contains many methods and techniques that can be drawn from to assist you. I select the tools carefully, matching you with the best skill and technique that you would benefit from. EMDR can be very useful for some people, but others may not choose to use that technique for working through their experiences. There are other ways to process pain, and I utilize a variety of ways to help you. Sometimes it is best to focus on negative self-talk, cognitive distortions and the need for coping skills. Other times, the trauma needs to be processed by making connections, and that can be done by talking, drawing, or writing. It is my job to assess what the issue is for you and apply the best treatment available.
