What does a first session with you look like?
Our first session together will be a "get to know you" session. I will ask questions about why you are seeking therapy, symptoms, strengths/growth areas, medical and family history, and what you are hopeful to take away from this experience. This first session is also an opportunity to ensure that I am the best fit for you! So I will be collaborating with you during the assessment to better understand and formulate treatment goals with you. The information from the first 1-3 session will help determine the outline of future sessions. In general, my sessions are often a combination of client/therapist led processing, evidence based interventions (in-session experiences), and next steps/summary to close out the session.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
For couples, I often use experiential treatment methods such as Gottman Method Couples Therapy, EFT, and other methods that help recreate situations/experiences in session in effort to reconstruct interactional patterns that are causing dysfunction in the relationship. Similarly, when I work with individuals, I utilize experiential and person centered treatment methods to help gain understanding about past and present interactional patterns. Once we develop an insight to these patterns, we discuss ways to change the pattern to promote balanced relationships without compromising values/beliefs.
