Under Clinical Supervision
Dr. Alexa Mediak, Licensed Master Social Worker, 115250 is practicing under the supervision of Margarita Carson (New York, LCSW, 89043) at Resilience Lab.
Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Since I was young, I loved being someone people felt comfortable confiding in and asking for guidance. As a child, I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks, which further inspired me to pursue a career as a therapist. I was able to foster resilience and apply many tips and tricks that I still use to this day. It is my goal to facilitate personal growth for others by finding their own coping mechanisms and strategies that will work for them.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
Panic attacks and anxiety- I've been there. Just being yourself can feel exhausting when you are anxious. That's why it's my mission to treat people facing these struggles and make sure they find a fulfilling life on the other side. Since anxiety is so prevalent among young adults, I especially enjoy helping this demographic deal with and heal from this debilitating state of mind. I believe in providing a balanced approach to therapy: I'm an active listener, but I'll also provide solutions and action items to help you overcome the obstacles you're facing. I create a welcoming atmosphere, so you can feel comfortable growing into the best version of yourself. I draw from a variety of approaches–including (but not limited to) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and mindfulness practices–to find the combination of techniques that will work best for you. Together, we’ll leverage your strengths, implement effective coping skills, and create a sense of purpose in your day-to-day. There is a fulfilling life beyond anxiety- one where being yourself feels effortless- and I would love to help you find it.
What are your biggest strengths as a therapist?
As a clinician, I prioritize listening in ways that cement my understanding of my clients' experiences. I am very accepting and non-judgmental, wanting each client to feel a sense of belonging. Lastly, I'm empathic, since we all have unique difficulties that affect us in different ways. These strengths have helped me develop strong and effective relationships with my clients.
