What does a first session with you look like?
I take pride in my ability to create space for my clients and be present with them. My goal is to help clients feel seen, heard, validated, and accepted. I strongly believe that knowledge is power and like to incorporate a significant amount of psychoeducation in sessions. I have a strong passion for neuroscience, so I tend to get a bit “nerdy” in my explanations of how our nervous systems work and affect how we think, feel, and behave. I also like to incorporate visual aids and screen shares via telehealth.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach is firmly grounded in humanistic and person-centered principles. In terms of talk therapy, I tend to utilize cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches. I have seen great shifts occur in clients when they reframe maladaptive thinking patterns and core beliefs. I also like to focus on how attachment patterns from early childhood affect relational patterns and sense of self. As a trauma specialist, I have also found great success incorporating mindfulness interventions, meditations, visualizations, and somatic interventions. I also enjoy incorporating aspects of Internal Family Systems Therapy and Polyvagal Theory. My favorite intervention, by far, is EMDR. I have also found utilizing bilateral stimulation while Resourcing in positive ego states to be very powerful.
