Under Clinical Supervision

Alicia Defilippis, Resident, 123 is practicing under the supervision of Anna Sumerlin (New Jersey, LPC, 37PC00624500) at Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Dumont.

Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.

What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Alicia DeFilippis is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) in the state of New Jersey who is experienced in providing therapeutic care to children, adolescents, and adults from diverse and multicultural backgrounds with a broad range of psychological and behavioral disorders. These include depression, anxiety, ADHD, disruptive behavior disorders, body dysmorphia, low self-esteem, trauma, and chronic stress. Alicia completed her Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Fordham University. She believes every individual is unique and therefore utilizes an eclectic approach to therapy, often combining person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamics, mindfulness, and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). Her hope is to work collaboratively to identify feelings, increase self-awareness, and implement coping skills that will create the meaningful changes you are seeking. Alicia is genuine, caring, compassionate, and empathetic. As your therapist, she will provide a safe space where you feel supported and relaxed. Alicia looks forward to working with you so you can achieve the goals that will allow you to start living a more healthy, happy, authentic, and meaningful life!
