What does a first session with you look like?
The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems.
What should we know about your experiences and background?
Amanda is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Massachusetts and LCSW in North Carolina. She earned her Masters in Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill and her B.A. in Psychology from Elon University with minors in Spanish, International Studies and Religious Studies. Coming from a compassionate, strengths-based, person-centered, and positive psychology perspective, Amanda works with clients through the many challenges of life. She uses approaches such as mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, solutions-focused therapy, and brief-treatment psychodynamic therapy. Regardless of who you are and where you come from, Amanda is looking forward to partnering with you in making changes, overcoming obstacles, and becoming the best version of yourself. Though Amanda works with a variety of clients, her specialties include working with undergraduate and graduate students as well as young adults and professionals. Some common concerns include anxiety, stress, depression, academic or career issues, relationship challenges, adjustment and transitions, existential worries, perfectionism, trauma, identity, LGBTQ+ issues, body image, and habit formation along with lifestyle changes. Another one of her specialties involves working with people who have mild intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Neurological differences often cause difficulties in daily life that may result in challenges such as anxiety, depression, social misunderstandings, low self-esteem, and stress. Psychotherapy is a safe environment to explore concerns and build coping skills for stress/anger management, impulse control, increasing positive self-image, relationship building, and communication skills. Amanda also enjoys working with the family and caretakers of those with I/DD to help them promote their own self care. She creates a safe space to address their concerns and challenges, to seek understanding, and to empower them in supporting their family members or clients. Above all, Amanda is here to help you with whatever is troubling you in difficult times.
