What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Dr. Amy McCarthy Sifford is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Supervisor with over 30 years of experience in the counseling, counselor education, and human services field. She specializes in trauma informed care. She is trained in specialties such as EMDR, Neurofeedback, Seeking Safety, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Choice Theory. Dr. Sifford utilizes a client centered, strengths- based approach that is grounded in existential theory and philosophy, namely that each of us has within us everything we need to overcome difficult situations and emotions. Working with her involves deconstructing problematic beliefs and behaviors and teaching evidenced based strategies to reconstruct a fully functioning and healthy way of thinking and being in relationships with the self and others. Dr. Sifford works with survivors of recent traumatic events and survivors of developmental trauma.
