What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Andrea Church is a Resident in Counseling working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She has over three years of clinical experience conducting both individual and group therapy in a variety of settings. She best serves children (ages 10 and up), adolescents, and adults with treatment needs such as anxiety, substance use, grief, depression, and trauma. Andrea is trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat trauma symptoms. EMDR is a form of treatment that helps the brain change the way emotional information is stored and helps the mind figure out its own way to get resolution regarding negative feelings, distressing thoughts, and uncomfortable body sensations. Andrea uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to reveal the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She also uses mindfulness techniques to help develop greater awareness of self and the world around us. Andrea utilizes a Person-Centered approach to provide a safe space for you to feel comfortable to share and explore different aspects of your life. Andrea believes in approaching mental health concerns from a holistic perspective that includes the connection between our mind, body, and spirit. Andrea thinks one of the most crucial aspects of therapy is the therapeutic relationship and she strives to provide a space of safety, kindness, and empowerment for clients. She believes in the use of existential theory to use a positive approach that focuses on human strengths, resiliency, and aspirations while simultaneously acknowledging inner conflict, difficulties in life, and the fear of the unknown. Andrea works collaboratively with her clients to relieve stress, foster growth, find meaning, and increase wellness in their life.
