What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As an African American woman from a rural area, I understand the stigma surrounding mental health and the importance of creating healthy habits.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Ashley Thomas is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) with over 8 years of experience. She specializes in treating children, teens, and adults who are struggling with depression, life transitions, stress, anxiety, anger management, relationship struggles, low self-esteem, and substance use. Ashley completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology at North Carolina A&T State University and her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Capella University, as well as her PhD in Developmental Psychology. She grew up in a rural area where mental health remains to be stigmatized. This ignited her passion for providing services to those in need and building within the field to enhance the understanding of the importance of mental health. Ashley provides clients with multiple treatment approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), person-centered therapy, solutions-focused therapy (SFT), motivational interviewing, and more. Mental health is just as important as your physical health. Ashley is optimistic that she is able to support your journey toward recognizing your personal abilities, meeting your goals, and creating a healthy and positive lifestyle. If you're ready and willing to put in the work to see the change you want, schedule an appointment with Ashley to begin your journey.
