What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. I have many years of experience working with a diverse array of clients.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Audrey Elkinson is a Licensed Certified Clinical Social Worker and Board-Certified Art Therapist (LCSW-C, ATR-BC)with more than 10 years of professional experience working with children, teens, and adults who have been struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, family conflict, dysfunctional relationships, behavioral issues, poor coping skills, oppositional defiance disorder, low self-esteem, women's issues, chronic stress, and more. Audrey received her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, where she was a research assistant to the Financial Social Work Initiative.She then completed a certificate program in Forensic Social Work at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Audrey has also earned a Master's degree in Art Therapy from George Washington University. Shehas worked as a court evaluator at the Montgomery County Circuit Court, in Rockville, Maryland. In that position, she conducted custody evaluations, testified as an expert witness in custody trials, taught co-parent education classes, and performed adoption home studies. Audrey believes in the uniqueness of each client and is eclectic in her approach to treatment and uses multiple modalities. Audrey often uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT), and art therapy. As an individual, couple, or family, you'll be able to work side by side with Audrey to start making progress towards a better quality of life and improved mental health.
