Expect our first few sessions together to be a time for me to get to know you. I'll be interested in hearing why you've come to counseling, and what your expectations are from our time together. As my client, you can expect to receive homework from me that will include mindfulness exercises and journaling assignments. Eventually, after the first 3-4 sessions as we get to know each other better, we will do some goal-setting which will help us track your progress in our longer-term work together. In our sessions together, you can expect active listening from me--making you feel heard is my top priority as your therapist, and I will combine this with honest reflection. I won't do any sugar-coating; I like to call things as I see them, but I do this in a very compassionate and kind way.
I incorporate various treatment modalities, where healing and recovery can take place through a combination of compassionate conversation, active listening, homework assignments in the form of journaling, mindfulness, self-reflection, cognitive behavior therapy, grief counseling, boundary setting and forming healthy relationships, and trauma-informed care. I also offer a faith-based approach, where clients seeking support grounded in Christianity and the Bible can feel free to express themselves. When working with children and adolescents, I am a strong believer in developing and implementing behavior plans, with a focus on shaping a child's positive behaviors through a series of reward systems that empowers the child to maintain positive behaviors.
