What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As part of this post-COVID world, I understand how things can be chaotic and challenging.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Brian (Rob) Robertson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has experience as an EMDR therapist specializing in treating trauma, dissociative disorders, and borderline personality disorder. To better serve individuals suffering as a result of these challenges, Rob is only taking new cases related to those areas. He works in all aspects of trauma, big or small. He even works in things that other therapists don t, such as victims of sex trafficking, military combat trauma, and victims of ritual abuse and programming (cults). He is a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. Rob believes in the use of compassion, understanding, and evidence-based practices to help his patients achieve their goals. As people, we are not defined by our experiences, nor are we a result of that, says Rob. Because of that, I like to talk to my patients about the neurobiology of why they are experiencing what they are experiencing, as well as ways that therapy can help heal the brain. With that said, I also like to use a holistic and person-centered approach to help the people I work with achieve mental and emotional wellness. Rob likes to work with his patients as a team and values being part of the journey in seeing them become the person that they want to be. He believes in understanding that each person's own experience is unique and important. Rob will create a personalized treatment plan that meets your specific needs, utilizing a wide range of scientifically proven techniques, including eye movement desensitization reprocessing therapy (EMDR), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and many others. It would be his honor and privilege to help you achieve the mental and emotional healing that you deserve.
