In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?

My therapeutic approach is eclectic in nature. I adjust my therapeutic approach/style based on how I feel my client will best respond. Life is ever changing, sometimes so are we. I learned at a young age how to adapt to life's circumstances and be open to change, and this is reflected in how I conduct therapy.

What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?

As a mental health professional you truly never stop learning, or tweaking your therapeutic repertoire which is a beautiful thing. Each of my clients have taught me something about the therapeutic process a long the way that I will cherish. However, one of the most insightful moments of my career was when I learned how to be truly comfortable with silence. This can be a very difficult task for a therapist as we naturally want to ask questions to avoid the discomfort we may feel with silence. I have learned that in those moments some of the most profound therapeutic experiences occur, so I embraced it.

What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?

I view genuineness as a key component of the therapeutic relationship. I am not afraid to share with my clients, and show them that I too have struggled. Genuineness and a mutual understanding of the human condition has been key in my success as a therapist.
