What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a seasoned licensed family therapist with a specialty in geriatrics and lifespan adjustment issues for families, I have a very clear understanding of life cycle adjustments and the ways they impact the family system. These adjustments can create emotional and spiritual needs within the family system and I use a solution focused, experiential, and person centered approach to help people work through these life cycle changes and decision making. I also have a passion for helping families find additional community-based resources beyond talk therapy.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Carole Cox is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with 40 years of experience in the mental health field. Carole has a history of working with people with dual diagnoses, people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and individuals and families who are facing life cycle adjustments. These adjustments can include caring for an elderly parent, marriage, divorce, and grief and loss. Carole has also had experience providing mediation for those who are in need of making difficult life transition decisions and require a coach or mediator. Throughout her career, Carole has helped countless families and individuals who are caring for a loved one with a diagnosis of a cognitive impairment, people with a dual diagnosis of mental retardation and developmental challenges, provided education and training for both families and professionals, and takes a faith-based approach for those who prefer this modality in counseling. Carole completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a focus on Art Therapy at the University of Connecticut, and her Master of Education (MEd) in Marriage and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University. Carole is an art therapist and uses experiential and educational approaches to goal setting for her clients. She is also passionate about taking a holistic approach to healing, including the use of faith-based counseling and education on wellness, including self-care techniques, diet and exercise, and meditation and prayer. Carole utilizes approaches to healing including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), experiential role play, family systems, solution focused goal setting, and mindfulness. She also enjoys helping people learn more about non medication approaches to treating anxiety and depression, including diet and exercise and general wellness techniques. We are all a part of the human condition and everyone experiences occasional life challenges and difficulties, which can create stress on oneself and one's family. Carole is passionate about helping you identify your specific needs during difficult life situations and be a supportive listener and a co-creator with you to help you learn new techniques to manage your concerns and gain a better sense of hope. She is ready to help you and eager to hear your story.
