What does a first session with you look like?
What you can expect from our sessions is, "being heard". An understanding of what is important to you and maybe a greater understanding yourself, when at a time you may be filled with uncertainties. But also, direction. It's not always enough to know why - we must sometimes make decisions to bring about lasting changes to how we feel. All the while, not losing sight of the many things which fill our lives - work, family and hopefully fun at times. Having lived, studied and worked in rural America, large cities, overseas, military, civilian, blue and white collar jobs, I find that I can relate to a wide spectrum of people.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach is eclectic, making use of the core mechanisms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (identifying specific thoughts & beliefs) along with Person Centered Therapy (focusing on your unique experience). Discussions are insight driven, bringing to light a path for you. A key point to keep in mind that my years of experience has taught me, is that regardless of the method, a practitioner's informed intuitive sense is crucial to benefit from counseling. Therapy is often a balance of where things are, where they could be and how to get where we want. This formula is not the same for everyone.
