What does a first session with you look like?
To establish the therapeutic relationship, the first session is spent information gathering to better understand the experiences and presenting problem the patient is seeking therapy for, background information to contribute to therapy, and explore their goals for therapy. Additionally we will discuss what they are seeking in a therapist so I can ensure that I am a good fit for the patient in assisting them to meet their goals.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I utilize the approach that I feel is best suited for the patient in front of me, therefore I take in to consideration their previous therapy experience, goals for therapist, preferences, and stage of change. I specifically find Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing, and CBT to be the most effective interventions, therefore I commonly utilizing these approaches. I am also EMDR trained (pursuing certification) and have utilized this approach with those that are interested.
