What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a collaborative therapist, I understand the need to partner with clients to set achievable goals.

Courtney Breven is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has 5 years of experience working with teens, adults, and families as they embark on a journey towards change. Courtney has experience working with families touched by foster care and adoption; individuals exploring their sexuality and gender identity; individuals learning to manage anxiety and depression; and families and individuals navigating life s transitions. She also has experience working with couples that are non-monogamous and/or polyamorous. Courtney completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) at Virginia Commonwealth University.She is passionate about partnership in the therapeutic setting--believing that you are the expert on your own experience.Using a collaborative, strengths based, and emotionally focused approach, Lori will help you to see your areas for growth as connected to a larger experience, while offering practical and useful coping skills.
