What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. Life can be challenging and full of ups and downs. As a therapist and a human, I understand the importance of wanting to gain understanding and control of it.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Crystal Bland is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) who has 13 years of experience in the mental health field. Crystal specializes in working with children, adolescents, and adults who are coping with depression, anxiety, and general phase of life challenges. Crystal completed her bachelor s degree in Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. At VCU, her desire to help became ignited as she assisted in many volunteer efforts to help others throughout the city. Crystal completed her master s degreein Counselor Education; Mental Healthat Old Dominion University. She began her professional journey in 2012 as a community-based counselor. Throughout that journey, Crystal gained experienced with mental health skill building, intensive in home, therapeutic day treatment, and outpatient therapy. She has served individuals in schools, community, and various juvenile detentions in the Hampton Roads Area. Crystal's theoretical approach is rather eclectic and integrative in general.However, person-centered could be considered the platform in which she practices. Crystal believes in creating a safe space for the client, creating an opportunity for them to be their authentic selves. Alongside person-centered practices, she may also use cognitive-behavioral approaches, solution-focused therapy, reality therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing when appropriate. Crystal believes that rapport is essential to the therapeutic process. She provides a safe, nonjudgmental space with openness and transparency. Crystal believes in empowering individuals so that they can take the driver seat of their lives. She would love to be your passenger.
