What does a first session with you look like?

I encourage the people that I work with to set therapy goals for themselves right from the start. Knowing what you want to work on in therapy gives us direction, a starting place. Along the way, your goals may change, and that's okay. During our work together, I often offer psycho-educational materials, handouts, exercises, and journaling prompts to keep the therapeutic process in full motion, even after we end our regularly scheduled sessions. My goal is to enable and empower you to take something useful away from each therapy session so that you can start using the skills and techniques in your real-world life adventures.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I utilize treatment strategies and techniques from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy with the individuals that I work with. CBT is widely known for helping clients identify negative thinking patterns, which helps with mood regulation, self-esteem and coping. Narrative Therapy further helps untangle thoughts and feelings, and I encourage regular "journal dumping" to assist with this. With couples, I use the Gottman Method. I have trained under Drs John and Julie Gottman, and I find their techniques to be extremely helpful for couples who might be looking to improve communication, intimacy, and trust in their relationship.
