What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

Dr. Danielle Simmons is a doctoral-prepared psychiatric nurse practitioner. She earned her doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of South Carolina. She started her career in academia. She has experience working with undergraduate nursing students as the Simulation Coordinator for the psychiatric nursing course. She was also an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina and Interim Director of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program at D'Youville College. Dr. Simmons left full-time academia to direct more of her efforts into clinical practice. She has experience working in outpatient general psychiatry - diagnosing, treating, and managing a variety of psychiatric disorders. Dr. Simmons values providing patient-centered care. She partners with her patients in the design of their treatment. She enjoys educating her patients, recommending lifestyle changes, and promoting wellness. Dr. Simmons loves to read, learn new information, travel, and explore new adventures. She lovingly considers herself a nerd.
