What does a first session with you look like?
Your first session is usually a chance for me to get to know you better, and to gain some understanding of what you're hoping to gain from counseling. Subsequent sessions will focus on working toward your counseling goals. This can be achieved through discussing the challenges you've faced in the recent and more distant past, as well as by learning new techniques that can help you approach your problems from a different angle. I feel that a certain amount of gently challenging your thoughts and other patterns can be quite helpful in most cases.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
The individual therapy I provide uses a lot of cognitive behavioral therapy, which can help you look at your thoughts and feelings about different situations in your life, and find more helpful (yet still realistic) ways to think about these situations.
