What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?

The most profound, insightful, or interesting thing that I've learned as a mental health professional is that everyone who seeks help does not want help. This was a hard lesson for me to learn as a young therapist. Learning to accept help is a skill that requires a vulnerable and humble mindset and spirit, and the motivation to make adjustments in your life. I had to learn that I cannot save people from themselves - and that some people do not want to be saved.

What are your biggest strengths as a therapist?

My biggest strengths? I think my clients can answer this question better than I can :-) Strengths: Communication/listening, humor, insight, challenging, non-judgmental, caring, supportive, kind, down-to-earth professional style

If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?

Seeking help from others requires good insight, bravery, and inner strength. It is a form of self-care that demonstrates your ability to make positive changes in your life. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be a better you.
