A therapist that is actively engaged. I want to understand how you go to your present difficulties and how to move forward with self confidence, purpose and direction. I like my patients to feel safe in the therapeutic space and know that their experiences in life have shaped them but they have the power to make changes that will be healthier for themselves. I do challenge my patients and make them aware of what patterns or thinking style or relational choices are feeding their difficulties. I want my clients to feel empowered to make choices and changes in their lives versus feeling like helpless victims.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to educate you on your thinking style that is not healthy or productive and even feeding the mood you are experiencing such as catastrophizing or awfuling. Focus with clients is to bring logic and reason to their thoughts versus emotions. I educate my clients on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy such as 'opposite to emotion' or 'ride the wave'. I am a solution focused therapist; I want my clients to begin to understand they are in control of their thoughts and actions. They can make choices that will bring them peace and happiness. They will set boundaries with others. They will learn to be more assertive. Balancing emotions with reason is important. Mindfulness and being self aware of your emotions and your thoughts are skills that are emphasized.
