As my client, you'll of course experience some of the practical steps of intake so that I can get to know you. Additionally, I'll be learning about your strengths, what interests you, and what you positive outcomes you would like to see for yourself as a result of therapy. I usually give my clients some "homework" to do between sessions (don't worry! I'm not collecting anything for a grade!) which might be doing some breathing exercises, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, journaling, or even exercise and being active, or even some worksheets or activities to help with self-awareness.
Even though we will probably be talking about "what's wrong", I believe it's important to always find a path toward "what's right" and what aligns with your sense of self, your beliefs, values, and interests in life. Therapy is more than processing pain and trauma. It's about building a life that brings you peace and happiness. I use various approaches that incorporate my training in CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (which is a form of CBT that includes mindfulness practices), EFT Tapping, positive mindset techniques that foster resilience, psychoeducation, meditation, yoga, and so much more.
