In our first session, I will talk to you about my background and how I try to help clients, as well as to review your rights as a client. I also need to learn a little bit about your life and current situation and why you are seeking help at this time. I trust from our first session you will find me a likable person with a sense of humor, a counselor who seems to be skilled and an individual who is ethical and compassionate. If you are not comfortable with me or my style of helping, I will help you find another therapist. In subsequent sessions, we will identify your treatment goals as well as a plan to achieve them. There is no specific roadmap beyond that as every client is unique and has different needs.

I find listening and giving honest, supportive and clear feedback are basic strategies I use during sessions. I also use evidenced-based counseling techniques such as Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe that having a trusting and non-judgemental therapist to speak to can be very helpful, whether it's discussing long-standing painful or confusing issues, how to deal with the stressors of daily life or sometimes just to chat about anything of interest to you that day.
