What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a 46-year-old man with extensive life experience, I learned a long time ago never to judge a book by its cover and believe that being non-judgmental while meeting someone where they are is the most effective way to help someone with whatever they are trying to deal with.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Douglas Gorman has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) since 2015 and has been in the helping profession for over 10 years. Douglas likes to work with individuals above the age of 15 and couples of all ages. He prefers a client that is willing to try and be honest with themselves about their needs and behaviors. Douglas has extensive experience in trauma, crisis, anxiety, depression, parenting, and general life challenges. Douglas completed his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Communications from the University of Rhode Island and went on to obtain his Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University in Tampa Florida. He has been listening to people talk about their problems since he was a teenager and trying to offer the best advice possible. When he was in his early 20s one of his best friends committed suicide which cemented his desire to help others with their issues, so their family and friends would not experience that pain themselves. Douglas has an innate ability to connect with people quickly due to my non-judgmental nature which helps me help people with the issues they want/need help with, instead of the issues I feel they need to correct. Douglas specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy combined with a humanistic approach. This helps Douglas get to the cause of the issue and provide steps to reach your goals with empathy and compassion. Douglas believes that he can work with you to help overcome almost any issue that you are having and is ready to start helping you help yourself. One of the hardest things we can do in life is ask for help and if you are ready and have the courage to ask, Douglas is ready, willing, and able to assist you. All you have to do is take that next step and schedule an appointment today.
