What does a first session with you look like?
During our initial session you will have a definite sense of whether we are a good "fit" to work together. You will have a clear sense of treatment and set out tentative goals. Since I began my career as an educator, I always want my clients to understand their treatment, so I am open to questions and enjoy sharing concepts to help you feel safe. Every client will practice a deep breathing technique during our initial sessions to immediately reduce stress and anxiety. During following sessions, you will develop self awareness and be supported to explore deeper issues and to release repressed emotions. As this process continues, you will develop more self confidence, an inner strength reflecting positive attitude to address daily life issues with more flexibility and joy.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My counseling is client centered which means that I use reflective listening to make certain that I am understanding your issues. As a marriage and family therapist, I look at situations with a structural and systemic perspective. My strongest healing comes from developing a safe environment and trusting relationship where my clients are able to share pieces of their life. I use a variety of interventions; from behavior to transform patterns on a practical level: emotional- help to identify, express and process emotions and mindful practice to address intrusive thoughts. Overall, a mind/body/emotion/spirit approach.
