What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Ethan E. Bickelhaupt is a Psychiatrist in Kansas who has been practicing since 1982. Ethan grew up on a farm in Idaho, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Zoology from The College of Idaho and obtained an MD degree from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1978. He completed a four-year residency at the Menninger School of Psychiatry in Topeka, KS (now at Baylor in Houston, TX) in 1982. Because of U. S. Public Health Service scholarship obligations, Ethan opened a general family practice in a small town in rural Kansas, where he practiced for 12 years, while simultaneously doing psychiatric consultations at the two regional hospitals. Following this, Ethan limited his practice to psychiatry, with board-certified sub-specialties in general psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction medicine, pain medicine, and forensics. At its peak, this solo-physician practice included 26 employees, of which seven were APRNs, three RNs, and other professionals and support staff.
