What does a first session with you look like?

You can expect a welcoming and empathetic space for sessions; I will follow your lead for pace and exploring relevant interventions. As we find the pace and tools that work best for you, I may gently challenge you to push past discomfort and fear to apply the strategies reviewed during sessions into your daily life. I like to start the session by asking for a highlight and a struggle from the past week; after the check-in I will either provide space to process intense current concerns or review homework from the last session. We will then identify and practice effective interventions to address your present needs. Towards the end of the session, we will do another check-in and determine what strategies you will practice for homework throughout the week.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my main treatment approach because it sets the tone for a hands-on and short-term treatment. This allows you to maximize your benefits from therapy without feeling "stuck having to do therapy forever." I believe the hands-on approach is a very effective way to apply what you are learning, identify what is working, and adjust as you go. I also think that learning how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are influencing each other (CBT triangle) is fundamental to pinpointing where change needs to happen and how to generate it. That being said, I also provide the space for talk therapy as needed and integrate Mindfulness in various forms into every session. I provide Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy for more intense anxiety-related symptoms such as OCD, as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for intensive emotional regulation and self-compassion training.
