What does a first session with you look like?
My client centered narrative therapy approach will have you reflecting on what situations in life have brougth us to where we are. I have a belief that everyone is the way they are for a reason, and identifying where we've been can help in clarifying where we are going. I frequently use examples, anecdotes, and illustrations when engaging in session.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I am trained in EMDR, which allows for effective treatment of unresolved trauma. This modality utilizes eye movements while reprocessing traumatic events. There is prep work involved that takes a couple sessions prior to engaging in the eye movements. I also utilize narrative therapy, which allows for us to distance from our problems. "We aren't problemed people, we are people with problems". Discovering what story we tell ourselves can allow freedom from past experiences, knowing that our past does not have to be our present.
