What does a first session with you look like?
During the evaluation, I will ensure that no other physical conditions are causing the symptoms that made you come in for an assessment. A typical psychiatric evaluation session could take between 60 and 90 minutes. However, the specific duration differs from person to person. You’ll be asked a series of questions to help me understand why you’ve decided to book a consultation and what symptoms you’ve been exhibiting. I will also take any family history of mental health conditions into consideration. The questions will vary from your treatment history to your developmental and social history.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
Due to the significant and well-documented influence of brain chemistry on psychotic disorders, the first step in treatment is usually starting a medication regimen and psychotherapy. The right medications can disrupt or change processes in the brain that cause or intensify symptoms. After starting medication, many people experience complete remission of positive symptoms of many psychotic disorders, including hallucinations and delusions.
