What does a first session with you look like?

What will this journey look like? During our first session, I will be doing the evaluation interview to better understand why you are seeking therapy. This will include obtaining background information, inquiring about your symptoms, and a routine inquiry as part of your first assessment. Based on what you share, we will then begin formulating goals depending on what you would like to work on first. If something imminent needs to be addressed, we will most likely start there. If there is anything that you may not be aware of, but I believe is necessary to bring up to help move you toward your goals, with your permission, I will do so as needed. I like to challenge my clients and tend to ask a lot of questions, as I find this necessary due to the fact that this is an investment on your part and not a cheap one at that. However, I am also very understanding and believe that the action of therapy is not easy at all, on the contrary, it is an extremely difficult and emotional journey to face and uncover past traumas and negative experiences, but it is an intrinsic part of the healing process that I will be accompanying you on. ¿Que puedes esperar del proceso? Durante la primera cita será un tipo de entrevista y evaluación sobre la razón cual buscas terapia. Esto va a incluir obtener información sobre tu historia, familia, educación, tus síntomas y preguntas generales como parte de tu primera encuesta. Si hay algo que yo vea que es necesario de hablar y veo que tu no estas muy consciente de, entonces te lo hare saber y con tu permiso trabajaremos en eso cuanto sea necesario. Soy una terapista que me gusta hacer preguntas, y reto a mis pacientes; lo veo necesario puesto esta es una inversión de tu parte y no lo es barata. Del otro lado, también entiendo que el hacer terapia no es nada fácil; al contrario, es un proceso bastante difícil porque es mucho dolor él que se tiene que enfrentar y lidiar para poder empezar a sanar.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

If you have been struggling with mental health problems for a while, you’re most likely familiar with the complexity of depression, anxiety, anger, and trauma and how they can all intertwine. It can feel like a roller coaster at times, where one may feed into the other, making it harder to know exactly what you are dealing with. For this reason, I will teach you CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) skills to re-frame thoughts, change habits and aid you in understanding the relationship between them. I will also be implementing Psychodynamic techniques to help us understand the role your subconscious plays behind your actions. Finally, if you are willing, (but is especially important,) we will revisit childhood memories that you may have thought were insignificant but likely have had profound impact on the person you are today. Si llevas tiempo combatiendo problemas mentales probablemente ya has experimentado su complexidad y te has dado cuenta de que pareciera que la depresión, ansiedad, enojo, y trauma esta todo combinado. La ansiedad se vuelve depresión, después enciende el trauma o viceversa y te confunde sin saber que realmente es el problema. Un solo tipo de terapia no es apto para todos, por esta razón combino una variedad de técnicas a medida que avancen las sesiones. En las consultas, aprenderá métodos de CBT o terapias-cognitivo-conductuales que le ensenará como cambiar su manera de pensar, le ayudará a cambiar hábitos y entender la relación. También usare técnicas psicodinámicas para entender como su subconsciente o inconsciente influye sus acciones. Finalmente, si lo desea y cual es muy importante, podemos recorrer a las memorias de su niñez, esas que probablemente ha asumido insignificantes pero que en realidad han tenido más impacto en la persona que es hoy.
