What does a first session with you look like?

I view the therapeutic relationship as an equal partnership as we work together towards the fulfillment of your personal and relational goals. In our work together, I focus on cultivating your strengths while addressing the areas of healing and growth you have chosen as your therapy goals. As a clinical social worker and therapist, my approach is a combination of contextual family systems theory and person-in-environment, exploring how upbringing, early relationships, and the larger systems in society impact our complex identities as individuals, couples, and families. I’ll support you to uncover the patterns of your unhelpful beliefs, underlying emotions, and how you relate with people. We’ll work together to identify your underlying needs and learn to practically live in new and meaningful ways so that you can experience yourself whole, grounded, and connected. I also integrate the latest neuroscience research to help you learn about your autonomic nervous system and make lasting neurological changes in the brain through a somatic-based therapy model called Brainspotting, which uses what we know about the brain to help process your emotions deeply, heal trauma and support you to fully embody yourself.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I take an approach that leans towards being strength-based, trauma-informed, justice-oriented, and person-centered while focusing on skills building (particularly positive self-talk, boundaries, and assertive communication), coaching, psychoeducation (holistic healing and functioning for the brain and the body), mindfulness, and self-care. I work from a trauma-informed approach and am level 3 trained in Brainspotting, a focused-mindfulness-body-based trauma healing intervention that supports people to heal from traumatic experiences and engage in expansion work for improvement in quality of life.
