What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist I am an empathetic listener and place high value on forming open and trusting relationships with clients.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Harry is a DC native and LPC now taking clients. He has 14 years in the mental health field and sees clients with a wide array of mood/emotional/behavioral concerns. Harry often works with clients grappling with major depressive disorder and anxiety. This is where he has found he is most helpful; however he also helps with substance abuse issues which often accompany these conditions. "Creating a trusting therapeutic relationship with clients is critical to my work and theirs, as we establish goals and identify and challenge negative thinking that stalls real progress," says Harry. "Progress comes through mitigating the severity of symptoms as well as restoring the client to a healthy baseline mood where one's sense of purpose and self-image are restored." Harry is a NW Washington DC native who has worked in the field of mental health for 12 years. He earned a Masters in Counseling from Trinity University in Washington DC and has largely utilized cognitive behavioral therapy with clients to help work through negative distorted thoughts, feelings, and beliefs regarding themselves and their world view. Mood disorders, transitions, and other life stressors play a regular role in his practice. Prior to private practice, Harry worked in two inpatient psychiatric hospitals as well as provided therapy at a (DC) community clinic. "Please feel free to reach out to me if you are struggling with your mental health and seek change," he says. "I am a very good and natural active listener and provide concrete feedback in a non-judgmental setting. I operate in a judgment-free zone and like to remind clients that 'this is not a performance' and that they are free to speak openly in a confidential setting."
