What does a first session with you look like?

As your therapist, I believe in a person-centered approach, which means that I will follow your lead. Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want to talk about and that is great. Some clients come in and are unsure of the whole thing, they don't know what to say or not say, they are worried and self-conscious, so I work with these individuals to make sure they are comfortable and feel supported. By initially building this type of trusting environment, we can collaborate to make the most effective use of our time together. As goals are met and new things arise, we will continue to assess until you feel empowered to continue on your own. While some sessions may be hard and give you an emotional hangover, most clients leave sessions with me feeling relieved, validated and capable.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I utilize a wide array of “tools” or modalities to help clients achieve their goals, including: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Brief Solution Focused Therapy and Interpersonal Neurobiology. I am strongly rooted in Developmental Theory and Attachment Theory because I believe that these helps to explain and heal the intergenerational trauma that many people suffer from. I also utilize creative outlets and a somatic approach whenever possible.
