What does a first session with you look like?
Sometimes a client may just need someone to listen while others need help with making a change. Still, others may struggle with internal processes they don't know how to cope with. I collaborate with the client to establish their own unique goal and help create a path to attain that goal by identifying barriers that get in the way and how to overcome them.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I have an ecletic practice which means I may draw from different therapies to customize a treatment plan that meets the client where they are. I believe education is key to understanding and learning how to move forward with life's challenges. Mindfulness, art activities, gratitude, positive affirmations, calming and relaxation exercises, distress tolerance and other client-specific coping strategies are taught. The therapies I use most frequently include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and exposure therapy.
