What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a mindbody practitioner, I work to support clients goals through a trauma informed lens. As a professionally trained expressive arts therapist, I also aim to work with clients who are interested in using creativity in all forms to deepen their understanding self.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Jennifer Kneeland, LMHC, RYT-200, is an expressive arts therapist with 5 years of experience as a trauma-informed mind-body specialist. They have experience working with veterans and service members, family dynamics, complicated grief, the LQBTQIA+ community, and non-monogamy relationship structures. Jenn specializes in resiliency building, creative growth, positive psychology, mindfulness-based work, and somatic approaches. Jenn completed a Master's in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge. They have completed a 200-hour yoga teacher certification and a 50-hour trauma-informed mind-body movement approach. Additionally, they have studied with the Benson-Henry Institute to complete training on building resiliency and improving quality of life through reducing stress. As humans, we experience significant overwhelm from our sensory environment, trauma, and stress that increases our disassociation and makes it difficult for emotional processes. Jenn believes that through reconnecting to the body and creative spaces we can improve our understanding and processing of our emotions.
