What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. I am an anti-racist, multicultural counselor that seeks to advocate for my clients as we work together toward transformation of the Self.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Jessie is a Licensed Professional Counseling Resident who has worked with those experiencing homelessness, addictions, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Her specialties include treating children and adults with complex trauma, folks experiencing depression, anxiety, midlife crises, career pivots, somatic complaints (medically unexplained body pain), and grief. Utilizing mindfulness and self-compassion, she believes that mental health includes noticing how and where our bodies store memories. Her foundational belief is that transformation is possible for all of her clients through the counselor-client therapeutic relationship and the neuroplasticity of the brain. Jessie completed her Master of Arts (MA) in Counseling at Eastern Mennonite University. She and her partner of 21 years have one sixteen-year-old daughter. Raised in an unstable household and the oldest of five children, Jessie worked hard to integrate her difficult experiences and become mindful of how her body stored trauma memories. Her own life path work combined with her rich professional experience gives her the ability to connect with those that feel deeply alone. She uses a psychodynamic approach that investigates how your original caregiver attachments pattern your current relationships. Her "work" includes Gestalt, motivational interviewing, social rhythm tracking, "parts" work, interpersonal processing, Jungian dreamwork, experiential mind-body connection, self-compassion, psychodrama, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP). " The human brain is designed to grow and change through exchanges of emotion with other humans. Some of those exchanges may have been negative and created difficult relational patterns that can feel unchangeable. Yet, science has proven that the brain has plasticity and you CAN change, but it takes two!" says Jessie. "Together, we will work toward the progress you want to make in your life. You don't have to do this alone anymore. Experience a different way of being and take that first step by making an appointment today."
