What does a first session with you look like?

Therapy with me starts with a safe, supportive environment for you to be heard. In the first session, I listen carefully and gather information about what brings you in. I focus more on understanding your current situation and concerns than on your past. Once we've defined the issues you want to work on we collaboratively plan objectives and goals for treatment. Twin aims are for you to feel good about yourself as you are and also to work on improving things. As we address the issues you face from week to week, along with empathic support, I'll help you learn and practice tools and techniques for coping with and overcoming problems. My general goals are for you to suffer less, feel more contentment and function better.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I integrate Client-Centered, Solution Focused and Evidence-Based treatment models as needed to best suit the needs of each client as a unique individual. Client-Centered to establish and maintain an effective therapeutic relationship - earning your trust by treating you with empathy, understanding, acceptance and respect. Solution Focused to set clear, practical and measurable objectives, goals and treatment plans. And Evidenced Based (teaching specific techniques and assigning homework using Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) as a proven path for you to develop skills that empower you to feel better and function better.
