What does a first session with you look like?

When clients enter therapy, they can expect to come into a safe atmosphere, which is positive, non-judgmental, insight-driven, healing, and supportive. I believe in the power of drawing out strengths for each individual, whether or not he or she yet realizes those innate gifts. We will develop goals, and therapy course and length will be determined by needs. Clients are often overwhelmed with life and life issues. I believe in personal empowerment, utilizing a “team approach,” strengthening perspectives and developing more effective ways of coping with issues. Clients can expect to know themselves better, increase self-esteem, improve insights, and gain a better understanding. The goal is a solution-oriented approach, with closure having a healthier, more positive outlook on life.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

Therapeutic modalities are based on one's needs/comfort. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is both effective and efficient, and takes less time in achieving resolution to many issues. Strength-based therapy allows the client to build on past successes to rebuild personal confidence and motivation, leading to resolution to current challenges. Insight-oriented therapy helps an individual understand his or herself, by gaining insight as to why some coping mechanisms are failing to resolve their current issues/conflicts. Finally, psychotherapy/talk therapy is used to process circumstances according to a feeling-centered approach, and is often used for a high degree of trauma or pain. In talk therapy, clients can process information at their own speed in a safer, more comfortable manner.
