What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a CBT counselor, I understand the unique issue of identity development and helping clients navigate the life journey and uniqueness of each individual.

John Howard is a Licensed Professional Counselor Resident in the state of Virginia. He has experience providing therapeutic care and clinical assessment to adolescents, adults, and couples dealing with depression, anxiety, autism, behavioral issues, self-esteem, and identity development. John completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Dallas and received his M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marymount University. Heutilizes collaborative, cognitive-behavioral, and person-centered approaches to therapy, integrating the most productive methods for helping clients deal with their presenting needs. John truly believes the connection between therapist and client is paramount to creating an open line of communication to ensure trust, reliability, and consistency.
