Therapy is far more than the time you spend talking with me. The real work of therapy is when you go home and work through the new information, or practice new skills. As such, you should expect to leave sessions with “homework” - questions to consider and answer, journaling, or new skills to implement and test. This is where real change happens.
My focus is on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and related treatment strategies, namely Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also use the Lifetrap model, where appropriate. I regularly utilize “homework” as a treatment tool to help guide you when you’re not in session with me. “Homework” can consist of journaling exercises, handouts, or logging behaviors.
