What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a parent of two children, including one with special needs, I understand the unique dynamics involved with raising kids.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Katie is a Licensed Clinical Therapist (LCT) with over 20 years of experience counseling individuals, from children dealing with traumatic loss, to foster and adoptive issues, self-esteem girls groups, to people with terminal illnesses. She also specializes in treating issues related to poor coping skills, grief and loss, low self-esteem, special needs parenting, and more. Katie completed her Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Texas-Arlington. She has also completed Dignity Therapy training through Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov, and is a certified Red Cross disaster action team member and Reiki practitioner. Katie uses strengths-based cognitive behavioral therapy (SB-CBT) to assist clients in setting goals and bringing about the changes they desire. Reaching out for therapeutic help is a strength, and Katie is confident in her abilities to support clients on their journey to reaching their goals.
