What does a first session with you look like?
After a process of assessment to better understand your/your family's struggles and needs, you can expect to grow in your capacity to use your strengths. Adults can expect to grow in self-awareness, body image, self-esteem, joy and fun using one’s body expressively, stress management, physical functioning (such as better circulation), a sense of belonging, pain management, expression of emotions safely, effective communication, self-regulation, and body-based coping skills. In addition to the above, families and children can expect to grow in social skills, attunement and healthy attachment in the caregiver-child relationship, healthy development including developmental milestones, ensuring physical safety, and children following appropriate rules (such as listening to caregivers). In addition to offering my knowledge and techniques, I trust your wisdom and find it important to follow your needs and ideas as we work together. We will collaboratively set individualistic goals for you or your family.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My holistic approach to healing uses several different approaches/modalities to support the integration of the mind, the body, and the soul/emotions. My style of therapy is rooted in body-based and creative interventions because the body has so many coping skills and is a powerful resource for healing. If it is a good fit for you, I use Dance/Movement Therapy and other creative approaches in my therapy. The treatment approaches I use include Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Person-Centered, Play Therapy, Mindfulness, Dance/Movement Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapies, Body-Based/Somatic, Systems, and aspects of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and DBT. (As an LPCC I provide psychotherapy that brings in my training, credentials, and experience as a registered Dance/movement therapist.)
