I maintain that being fully present, aware, and curious are foundational to honor all clients as human beings (and not just a diagnosis). Furthermore, and equally important, is the necessity to establish and work to develop mutual trust and rapport such that sensitive issues, feelings, & thoughts are held with dignity yet we both can be comfortable in being forthright about certain things as well. "Despite the medical need to diagnose, in my opinion, it is much more productive to work toward disarming the thoughts, beliefs, emotions, feeling-states, impulses, and behaviors that drive symptoms.
