Under Clinical Supervision

Ken Lopez, Licensed Master Social Worker, 117661 is practicing under the supervision of Adriana Ruvalcaba (New York, LCSW, 93103) at Resilience Lab.

Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.

What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

At 14, I was a farmer advocating for equitable food systems in my home city for the BIPOC community. That experience sparked a passion for community organizing and activism as it pertains to marginalized communities. I journeyed through a wide range of systems, from LGBTQ+ youth homelessness to foster care and after-school programs for students of color. Through my experiences in these spaces, I realized just how critical it was to integrate mental health services into the lives of marginalized communities. That’s why I’m here.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

There are no limits to how you express yourself within the healing space with me. If you're feeling angry and need to scream, do that.f you're feeling lost, let's go there. If you're feeling anxious, let's name that. This is how we connect and grow. There is zero judgment, always. You are free to come as you are, always.

What are your biggest strengths as a therapist?

1. Humor: Creating laughter, which I love to use as medicine for healing, is one of my superpowers. 2. Authenticity: I show up to the space as a human and recognize that you are too! I never hide who I am and neither should you. 3. Accountability: Whenever possible, I push my clients to be better than they were yesterday. It's a learning and growing process and that's OK. I like to tell folx, "you don't know what you know until you know".

Work History

As a clinician, I have extensive experience working with marginalized groups (BIPOC, first-generation, etc.) I’ve provided one-on-one therapy for adults and conducted counseling sessions for LGBTQ+ adolescents and teenagers. I've provided support group counseling sessions for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming young adults as well. I’m now a member of Resilience Lab, where I have access to the resources and support I need to provide the best possible care for my clients. Resilience Lab is the largest community of clinicians in the Northeast who are working collaboratively to produce better outcomes and improve mental health access.
