What does a first session with you look like?
The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As an African American woman, I understand the unique mental health needs people of color need to address various challenges they endure.
What should we know about your experiences and background?
Kenatta Bethea is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who provides psychiatric treatment to individuals with various mental health disorders such as mood disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and disruptive disorders. She works diligently to provide quality and evidence-based mental health treatment for ages 22 to 60. Kenatta prides herself on being an advocate for mental health challenges and needs. She also prides herself on working well with an interdisciplinary team to provide the best care to her patients. It is important to her to ensure everyone suffering from a mental illness has access to the treatment that they need and to remove the stigma surrounding mental health. Kenatta graduated from Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk and completed her bachelor's degree of science in nursing at Chamberlain University. She earned her master's degree to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Walden University. She first became a licensed practical nurse in 2010, and then a registered nurse before gaining her certification in 2021 as a PMHNP. Kenatta has over 10 years of experience in the mental health field that ranged from outpatient services to inpatient services to community-based services on a Program of Assertive Community Treatment team. Although she primarily completes psychiatric evaluations and prescribes psychotropic medications, she also incorporates various psychotherapeutic modalities in her care. Kenatta also educates her patients on the importance of combining psychotropic medications with psychotherapy to achieve the most benefit from mental health treatment. You may feel alone during your challenges, but Kenatta is here to let you know that you are not alone and to support you on your healing journey in any way she can! If you're ready to put in the work to heal from your pain, schedule an appointment with her today.
