What does a first session with you look like?
The first session consists of an assessment, diagnosis and treatment options/recommendations. I typically will discuss the MAPS concept i developed and clinical skills that may be used to help each client (see next section below).
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I prefer to do Christian counseling. When doing Christian counseling, I use a concept called MAPS that guides the process from both a spiritual and clinical standpoint. I incorporate scripture and prayer, as well as empirically supported clinical techniques that align with Biblical values including: cognitive behavioral techniques, dialectical behavioral skills related to distress tolerance and relaxation, self-regulation techniques and psychoeducation for PTSD, depression and anxiety.
