What does a first session with you look like?
I approach my sessions with non-judgmental empathy. My clients are reassured that they are wonderful human beings who may have experienced some not-so-wonderful events. We work together to understand through education and empowerment how to build strategies so that we can improve our daily functioning. I will occasionally assign homework in order for you to practice healing and improving as we move along. I will also often provide positive affirmations to practice daily/weekly to assist your empowerment.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I use CBT quite often at the beginning because it helps us understand where our emotional and behavioral experiences may develop. I also utilize DBT because of its importance on learning to accept yourself as you are - a wonderful human being who may struggle with difficult events. I work to also engage my clients in other techniques that may be more creative to improve self-expression. I believe my clients know themselves best and can work to find what helps them the best.
