What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

My name is Kimberly Sims and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. With over a decade of experience, I help individuals and couples navigate through life's challenges and achieve emotional stability to a higher level. My passion for helping others stems from growing up in a family where mental health was a part of our everyday conversations, as my father had a career working in community mental health. As a military spouse, I understand firsthand the unique challenges of transitions and constantly having to put down new roots every few years. Navigating the stressors and the complexities of relationships and parenting in the military is hard and you don t have to do it alone. I believe that every person is unique and deserves a personalized therapeutic plan. Using a strengths-based, solution-focused approach to understand my client's needs, I strive to incorporate effective and research-based interventions. When conceptualizing a treatment strategy, I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and the Gottman Method. I work to create a safe and inclusive space where clients can feel heard, supported, and empowered. I provide affirming and non-judgmental support to individuals with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and non-traditional lifestyles. Life can throw us unexpected situations, and I'm here to help you navigate through them. My goal is to empower you to work through difficult areas in your life, heal traumas, and help you shift your perspective on life. So, if you are feeling overwhelmed, know that you're not alone.
